The high school fall sports season is near, and Perrysburg Schools are looking to provide new and improved facilities for some of their athletes. The district is working with its athletic boosters to raise funds for a new locker room and training facility for Widdel Field at Steinecker Stadium, located at Perrysburg Junior High. The high school football team along with boys and girls soccer and lacrosse teams use the stadium for their games and practices.  According to Jeff Abke, Director of Development for Perrysburg Schools, the current locker rooms at the junior high only provide 40 actual lockers for 70 players, and are located a good distance away from the stadium. Meanwhile, the soccer and lacrosse teams don’t have any locker room to call their own.In order to change that, the district has raised $900,000 in private donations for a new locker room and training facility for those teams, according to Abke. He says they need a total of $1.25 million in order to start construction. But Abke says none of the money will come from taxpayers.  The need is there, and I really commend the donors for recognizing that and stepping forward said Abke. It’s facilities like this, the extra things, that make Perrysburg such a great place to be.
